Every form of entertainment has had its low and high points. It is what makes the entertainment industry what it is. The history of professional wrestling has had it share of both low points and high ones. For most fans, such highlights depend on the years that great matches were fought. At the same time, other fans are keen on the years when top promotion deals were sealed. The following are some of the highlights that have taken center stage as far as this fun sport is concerned.

1948 is a critical year. It is the period that saw the establishment of National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). This resulted in a number of things. Matches began to be shown on national television. The fights aired were high grade and the proceeds increased tremendously. Thus, the organization was a boon to the sport. It was something the stakeholders truly needed.

A big time promoter named Vince McMahon left NWA and went ahead to set up NWA. At the same time, Bruno Sammartino began his eight year supremacy as WWF champion. Lou Thesz ruled in NWA as a three time World Heavy Weight Champion. During this period, it was quite common to find wrestlers holding contest titles. Bruno was defeated by Ivan Koloff in 1971.

Vince McMahon steered his WWF promotion in an entirely new direction by Hulk Hogan. The year when this took place was 1983. On the other hand, NWA kept the fire burning due to its first payment with Starrcade. Vince McMahon got his big break in 1985 with the establishment of Wrestle Mania. This new establishment took the sport to a whole new level.

Most enthusiasts hold the opinion that 1987 was a great year for WWF. Hulk Hogan received the torch from Andre the Giant. Approximately 100,000 fans were in attendance during Wrestle Mania part three. This occasion was held at Pontiac Silver dome in Michigan. Indeed, the new development widened the fan base for this particular pastime. It was a development that would change the game positively.

WWF rose to become a major player in the industry by 1989. With the aim of ousting it, NCW and WCW joined hands. Famous rows were also witnessed this same year. The major one involved Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat. Another major one was between the same Ric Flair and Terry Funk. These feuds added flavor to the game and most supporters would not mind a dose of drama. It is what will make them watch more and more of the game under scrutiny. Hence they were enthusiastic to know how evrything turns out in the end.

Kevin Nash and Scott Hall intimidated WCW in 1996. Also, Hulk Hogan went ahead to form the NWO. The Austin 3:16 age started on the same year. Austin belonged to WWF. Mike Tyson involvement in the WWF storyline of Steve Austin made 1998 a celebrated year.

Undertaker, a renowned fighter threw Foley off the peak of the cell during the same year. Goldberg became champion in WCW while ECW stuck to its hardcore type of matches. 1998 is certainly an important year during the establishment of the sport in question. It is considered by many to be a major turning point for the sport. Both players and supporters attest to this fact.
