Obesity is one of the leading health problems in America. Thus, to help in the solution of this problem, to at least reduce the number of obese Americans, gastric surgery is practiced. Particularly in Ridgewood, NJ, many patients have tried the procedure in order to lose weight. The process involves the operation of the stomach by cutting it to more than a half. This will be taken away and only a small portion is retained.

Patients are to choose between two types of approach, the open surgery or the laparoscopic method. Gastric sleeve surgeons in NJ are properly trained and specialized in this particular surgery. So if you like to give it a try because you are having a hard time dieting and exercising, you may resort to this.It is done by cutting or making incisions on the tummy. After the surgery, you may feel sore around the cut and you feel like fainting. Your bowels are also acting weird by that time, causing diarrhea. This is normal, according to doctors. Your body will need to adjust for a long time. Belly pains will be experienced so doctors will prescribe pain medicines.

The surgeon will cut your tummy in the open surgery. On the other hand, in the laparoscopic method, they will simply incise some parts of the belly bit by bit and then taking away parts of the stomach using a tiny device with a small camera. During the first week after surgery, you may feel nauseous.

Another thing is that it may cause diarrhea. Often, especially during the first week, there will be a feeling of faintness and nausea. Doctors advice not to do heavy exercises after an open surgery. After around one to three months, daily routine and some light exercises can be done. But many prefer the laparoscopic approach wherein they can recover more quickly.

You may be advised to get a dietitian as they will help you get more nutrients in your food intake. You have to watch your diet by making a diet meal plan per day which will be taught to you by your dietitian. There is a possibility that you will not lose weight at all especially if you will take in foods that are high in calories.

You will be wasting your time and money in the surgery if you do not listen to your doctors. If you will eat the same way you did before, your belly could stretch. Thus, never eat more than your new tummy can handle.

It is a great idea to consult a nutritionist or dietitian. You will not be able to take in a lot of nutrients so they will help you out while you lose weight. They are the one who will recommend a perfect diet or nutrition plan so that you will be able to have a balanced diet.

The success rate is high as long as you learn self discipline. You could be wasting the purpose of the operation if you will still eat more that you should this time. Your tummy will stretch if you keep on eating the same food intake you used to have before the operation. You will only defeat your own purpose.

However, there could be some risks and side effects if you are not careful. These include cut infection, blood clot, and stomach leaks. For others, there are long term effects like anemia, kidney infection, and osteoporosis.
